Commitment to Excellence

John Horton and The Forest Room

Our classroom has become a place where we celebrated hard work, honesty, and community. Dr. Maria Montessori said that “That humanity which is revealed in all its intellectual splendor during the sweet and tender age of childhood should be respected with a kind of religious veneration. It is like the sun which appears at dawn or a flower just beginning to bloom. Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child to open up himself to life.” Here in the Forest Room at Barack and Michelle Obama Montessori we are doing just that.

Our E1 learning community is called “The Forest Room.” In essence, a forest is the perfect analogy for a classroom, highlighting the importance of diversity, interconnectedness, growth, exploration, resilience, and a guide that helps lead and nurture the learning environment. Just as a healthy forest supports a multitude of life, a thriving classroom nurtures the potential of each individual student. This approach is designedto foster a deep love of learning and a strong sense ofcommunity. Through this personalized approach, your child will develop a profound appreciation and understanding of our world, a foundation they will carry with them far beyond our classroom.
